# Changelog

> Product updates and announcements for CTOR

<Update label="July 8, 2026" description="v2.24.11" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Worktrees

  * **Isolated [git worktrees](/ctor/reference/worktrees)** — chats can now run in a selectable worktree, with create / merge / remove flows, per-worktree [simulator](/ctor/reference/preview) and Config Editor state, and sidebar worktree indicators.

  ### Tool calls

  * Agents narrate before and after tool calls for clearer progress, and bash tool titles use the first-line intent comment.

  ### Models

  * **New model options** — Claude Fable 5, Claude Sonnet 5 through GitHub Copilot and opencode, GitHub Copilot Kimi K2.7 Code, opencode Kimi K2.7 Code, opencode GLM 5.2, and opencode MiniMax M3. See [supported models](/ctor/reference/models).

  ### Sign-in and connections

  * **OTP login** — handles object-form validation replies, missing-token replies, and request timeouts more reliably.
  * Transient connection-retry errors stay quiet while automatic retries are still running, and only surface once retries are exhausted.

  ### App lifecycle

  * CTOR Desktop checks for app updates hourly, Settings opens to the requested tab reliably, and Main Chat no longer shows project-only actions.

  ### Linux

  * Installers add their bin directory to PATH when needed, and installing BRICKS CLI from CTOR persists the CLI path correctly.

  ### Fixes

  * Foreground bash timeouts are capped, and sub-agent output truncates without corrupting UTF-8 text.
  * Other CTOR Desktop stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="July 1, 2026" description="v2.24.10" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Models

  * **Custom endpoints** — [OpenAI-compatible endpoints](/ctor/reference/models#openai-compatible-endpoints) can now enable Responses API mode, per-model reasoning, xhigh effort, a custom context window, and vision.
  * **Fallback Vision Model** — a text-only model can borrow a configured vision model to describe images from attachments, `read_file`, [simulator](/ctor/reference/preview#agent-driven-preview) screenshots, and tool results, so it can still act on them. Configure it in [settings](/ctor/reference/settings).

  ### Main chat

  * The [main chat](/ctor/guide/main-chat) can answer `ask_questions` raised by the sessions it drives, so a background session keeps going when the answer is already clear.

  ### Appearance

  * **Streaming animation** — streamed messages now animate as they arrive, and [Appearance settings](/ctor/reference/settings#appearance) add a **Reduce motion** option to turn it off.

  ### Window and layout

  * The floating sidebar stays open near the window's left edge with smoother edge handling, and Local Devices actions collapse better at compact widths.

  ### Sessions

  * Deleting or switching sessions no longer corrupts navigation history, truncates the wrong session, or merges projects from stale state, and quick questions stay scoped to the right session.

  ### Fixes

  * Codex commentary renders as text, a transient WebSocket retry now fires correctly, `read_file` output is capped before it's sent to the model, and right-area tabs are guarded during layout changes.
  * Other CTOR Desktop stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="June 24, 2026" description="v2.24.9" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Preview

  * **Draw mode** — adds a host-side annotation overlay with pen, rectangle, arrow, editable text, and eraser tools, plus undo / redo, color, and width.
  * **Record Events as Automations** — recording in the [preview](/ctor/reference/preview) now pre-fills the chat with a request asking the agent to author the automation, complete with real step timings and entity names.

  ### Messages

  * **Export** — the [Messages Detail](/ctor/guide/agent-usage#inspect-the-messages) panel can export the model messages as Markdown or JSON through a native save dialog.

  ### Goals

  * Edit a running goal's objective in place, run an on-demand goal **Check**, and see which custom lifecycle [hooks](/ctor/reference/hooks) fired during a session — including any that blocked or failed.

  ### Agent

  * **General-purpose sub-agent** — a [sub-agent](/ctor/reference/sub-agents) with full tools is available, and [skills](/ctor/reference/skills) can drive a spawned agent using a bundled instructions file.

  ### Models

  * New model options: opencode-go glm-5.2, and a Normal / Fast speed selector for openai-codex GPT-5.4 / 5.5.

  ### Sessions

  * The macOS dock icon lists your 5 most recently used sessions, and [session search](/ctor/reference/session-search) shows recent sessions when the query is empty.

  ### Sandbox

  * In [Sandboxed mode](/ctor/reference/sandbox), read-only `bricks devtools` command chains now auto-approve instead of prompting every time.

  ### Window and layout

  * The right-side panel and sidebar auto-close when dragged narrower than their compact width, and the right-area panel now animates open and closed.

  ### Other

  * Other features, fixes, performance and stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="June 17, 2026" description="v2.24.8" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Plan

  * **Plan mode** — use `/plan` to draft implementation plans in a read-only session, review or approve them, and track checklist progress while executing.

  ### Sessions

  * **Multi-session management** — Main Chat can create, message, stop, archive, and inspect other sessions, with queued completion reports back to the current chat.
  * **Fork** — fork a session from the current transcript.

  ### Agent

  * **Custom hooks** — global and project `hooks.json` can run commands on prompts, tool calls, session stops, compaction, goals, and sub-agents.
  * **MCP management** — Main Chat can manage MCP servers through its main workspace `.mcp.json`.
  * **Persistent goals** — goals can auto-continue work until completion.

  ### Models

  * New model options: opencode-go kimi-k2.7-code, minimax-m3, and qwen3.7-plus.

  ### Window and layout

  * Preview / Simulator / right-area panes stay attached across refreshes, session switches, and empty Main Chat states.

  ### Chat

  * `/imagegen` is suggested when an image provider is configured.

  ### Other

  * Sandboxed project init, media upload / download, and clipboard copying are more reliable.
  * Other features, fixes, performance and stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="June 10, 2026" description="v2.24.7" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Files

  * **File Viewer tabs** — browse local project files and config URL assets in the right area, preview common file and media formats, search with `rg`, open local Markdown links, and replace the current file tab while browsing.

  ### Chat

  * **Voice input** — dictate chat messages on macOS 26+. Includes microphone-permission handling, English / Traditional Chinese / Japanese recognition, BRICKS-aware contextual terms, a clear stop state, and higher-quality recording defaults.

  ### Agent

  * **Sandboxed `read_file` permissions** — the agent can ask before reading outside the project, with **Allow once** and **Allow & save** choices backed by `sandbox.json`. See [sandbox](/ctor/reference/sandbox).
  * CTOR Desktop now prompts before running destructive `bricks app remove` / `device remove` / `module remove` commands. See [commands](/cli/commands).

  ### Sessions

  * **Dock badge** — completed agent sessions increment the app dock badge when they finish out of focus, and clear when the session is viewed, archived, or deleted.

  ### Window and layout

  * The floating sidebar can be resized from its visible edge and remembers its width.
  * The right-area **+** button opens a dropdown of available views instead of routing through an empty picker.

  ### Preview and DevTools

  * **DevTools tabs** gain an in-page close button and a cleaner front-end, with less useful panels and toolbar buttons removed.

  ### Deploy

  * Generated configs preserve [Data Bank](/controller/data-bank) remote-update types during compile.

  ### Other

  * Other performance and stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="June 3, 2026" description="v2.24.6" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Sessions

  * **SQLite session storage** — sessions move to SQLite with full-text search. `Cmd/Ctrl+K` searches session titles and messages, starts a new chat from the search query, scopes project searches, and skips noisy tool-result matches.

  ### Window and layout

  * **Multiple main windows** — open the same chat in a new window from **File → New Window** / **Actions**; agent events, approvals, and questions stay synced across viewers.
  * **Right-area tabs** — the right area is redesigned as tabs for Controller, Diff, [Preview](/ctor/reference/preview), Simulator, and DevTools. Tabs reorder, close, switch with `Cmd+1..9`, resize persistently, and keep state per project.
  * Smaller window and right-panel minimum widths, an icon-only preview toolbar when narrow, danger styling for **Delete Local Project**, and screenshot capture that preserves box-shadow.

  ### Preview and DevTools

  * **Device and Simulator DevTools** dock into right-area tabs by default, with an option to pop out; embedded DevTools disables screencast by default.

  ### Controller

  * The Controller tab refreshes in place, opens external links in the OS browser, and uses the workspace picker when launched without a selected workspace.

  ### Sidebar

  * The floating sidebar is now the default for new users, with a first-startup guide, session back/forward navigation (`Cmd+[` / `Cmd+]`), and correct behavior during webviews, context menus, and drag operations.

  ### Chat

  * **Any-file attachments** — images attach inline for vision-capable models; other files insert as `@{path}` mentions. Chat images open in a lightbox and can be saved.
  * **Context usage popover** breaks down System Instruction, Agent md, Skills, Custom Instruction, Tools, Messages, and remaining capacity against the auto-compact threshold.

  ### Agent

  * Agent runs retry transient connection / 5xx / timeout errors automatically, without retrying auth or quota failures.
  * Small-model tool calls can be normalized through fallback schemas; `ask_questions` handles flat single-question output.

  ### Deploy

  * **Push Config** replaces **Update Config** across CTOR Desktop and generated projects; local-ahead indicators can be dismissed until the next commit.
  * Generated projects include app entries for application-only payloads and import generated animations / properties correctly in bricks output.

  ### Models

  * New model options: **Claude Opus 4.8**, opencode-go **Mimo 2.5** / **2.5 Pro**, and **qwen3.7-max** (text-only). See [models](/ctor/reference/models).

  ### Other

  * **macOS Local Network privacy** — CTOR builds get unique Mach-O UUIDs and a proper permission prompt, fixing Local Devices / DevTools discovery on affected systems.
  * Removed-project cleanup releases the cached TypeScript LanguageService.
  * Other performance and stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="May 27, 2026" description="v2.24.5" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Sidebar

  * **Floating sidebar overlay** — Arc-style sidebar slides in from the left edge when collapsed; the collapsed state persists across launches.

  ### Chat

  * **Tool blocks** — tool call and its result render as a single collapsible block. `write_file` / `edit_file` blocks default collapsed with inline +added / −deleted diff stats.
  * **Per-turn model header** carries cumulative duration; multi-message turns add a right-aligned footer so the model and timing stay visible after the header scrolls off.

  ### Preview

  * **Native preview pane tools** replace the previous host-iframe approach. Multiple project previews run concurrently, headless captures stay hidden, visible previews persist through headless invokes, and captures crop to the app frame. See [preview](/ctor/reference/preview).

  ### Agent tools

  * **TypeScript Language Server tools** — opt-in. When enabled, the agent surfaces type errors after every `write_file` / `edit_file` on `.ts` / `.tsx` / `.cts` / `.mts`, and can jump to where a symbol is defined or find its references. Toggle on under **Settings → Advanced → Language Server Tools**.
  * **`edit_file`** matches whitespace-tolerantly with a multi-pass strategy (exact → trim → comment / unicode → prefix / substring → indent-aware fuzzy → character fallback, with ambiguity guards) and supports `replace_all` for bulk edits. CRLF / BOM / mixed line endings are preserved byte-faithfully on write.
  * **`read_file`** gains `offset` / `limit` pagination, `cat -n` line numbers, BOM stripping, a middle-preserving fallback for minified single-line files, and stat-aware error categories (`ENOENT` / `EACCES` / `EISDIR`).
  * **`bash`**, **`grep`**, and **`glob`** share a common output truncator. `bash` keeps a 256 KB head + 256 KB tail instead of being killed on overflow; `grep` gains an `output_mode` parameter (content / files / count), capped at 100 lines for content; `glob` caps at 100 paths and filters `.DS_Store` and full `node_modules` paths.

  ### Workspace

  * **Custom Main Chat directory** (default `~/bricks-ctor`) with up-front validation. Swapping the directory mid-session hot-swaps the agent's tools and sandbox scope.

  ### Settings

  * **Font sizes** for UI and code (10–24 px) in **Settings → Appearance → Fonts**.
  * **Brand icons** for providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Vertex AI, GitHub Copilot, OpenAI Codex, opencode, …) and external editors (VSCode, Cursor, Zed, Sublime, Codex, Antigravity, iTerm, Ghostty, Terminal, …) in the Settings provider list and the chat toolbar's **Open in** menu.

  ### Models and providers

  * **Gemini 3.5 Flash** added across Google AI Studio, Vertex AI, and GitHub Copilot providers. Google's default model is now Gemini 3.5 Flash. See [models](/ctor/reference/models).
  * **Per-model context window override** for openai-compat endpoints (min 32 K, default 128 K).
  * **Anthropic OAuth login** — sign in with a Claude Pro or Max subscription for credit-based usage instead of an API key. Signed-in provider rows show an OAuth badge.

  ### Other

  * Other features, fixes, performance and stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="May 20, 2026" description="v2.24.4" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Auto-compile

  * **Auto-compile** — background compile gated on actual input changes (`write_file` / `edit_file` tool hooks plus watchers on subspaces, automation-tests, `application.json`, `compile.ts`, `app.ts`, `root.ts`); errors surface in a banner with an **Ask** button that hands the failure to the agent.

  ### Sync

  * **Sync pills** next to the **Actions** menu show whether the server has new commits or the local clone is ahead. **Check for Updates** in **Actions** manually triggers a sync check with a brief outcome flash.
  * **Update Config dialog** — pre-flight refuses to push when the server is ahead, awaits inline auto-compile, and propagates compile errors instead of silently pushing a stale build.
  * **Non-force Pull** — separate **Pull** / **Force Pull** buttons. Non-force pull branches at the server's last commit, lands a 3-way merge on `main`, and surfaces conflicts as auto-compile errors instead of failing the pull.

  ### Skills

  * **Skills installer** — install third-party [skills](/ctor/reference/skills) from a public GitHub repo (e.g. `vercel-labs/skills`) or local folder, with recursive skill detection, multi-select, conflict warnings, and Global / Project scope.

  ### Sessions

  * **Session archive** — right-click **Archive** replaces immediate **Delete** in the sidebar. New **Settings → Archive** tab groups archived sessions by project with per-row **Recover** and two-step **Delete forever**.
  * **Rename projects** from the sidebar's more-menu (writes the new name to `application.json`; Enter commits, Escape cancels).

  ### Chat

  * **Ask Question** — the agent can pause and ask 1–4 multiple-choice clarifying questions inline in chat, with a Custom free-text fallback per question.
  * **`/compact` slash command** — manually compact the conversation without waiting for the context limit (the popup hides the entry when the compactor wouldn't find a useful cut). Supports an optional follow-up prompt.
  * **Custom Instruction** now has an explicit **Save** button (no more blur-triggered autosave). The persisted block is scoped: user wording is treated as a personal rule but prior system-prompt rules win on conflict.
  * Main agent recognizes share-app URLs (`control.bricks.tools/#/create-share-app`, `share.bricks.tools/app/`) and hands off to the [BRICKS CLI](/cli) share-app workflow.

  ### Other

  * Other performance and stability improvements.
</Update>

<Update label="May 13, 2026" description="v2.24.3" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Preview

  * **Draw mode** — annotate the embedded preview with a pen overlay and attach the composite (preview screenshot + strokes) to the chat input.

  ### Chat

  * **Workspace profile selector** in the chat input — project chats display the project's workspace; main chat lets you switch the active auth profile (with a confirmation step since it rebuilds the agent's system prompt).
  * Long sessions paginate with inline "Show N hidden replies" buttons (fully-rendered window capped to 50 messages).
  * Tool-call file content (`write_file` / `edit_file` / `read_file`) renders as syntax-highlighted code or a unified [diff](/ctor/reference/diff-view) with expand-to-full-size; streaming bodies update token-by-token.
  * Brand animation plays alongside the elapsed timer while the agent is running.
  * Streaming render is rAF-coalesced and historical bubbles short-circuit; new markdown blocks fade and slide in as they arrive.
  * Render an image attachment only when the active model supports vision; cap chat image preview (80px) and rendered image (400px) heights.
  * Chat input auto-resizes when prompts are set programmatically (Inspect, popped-out preview, history nav, etc.).

  ### Agent

  * System notification and sound when an agent run finishes or needs approval and the app is off-focus (toggle in **Settings → Agent**).
  * New `set_session_title` tool summarizes the current task into a sidebar-fit title.
  * Agent loads matching [skills](/ctor/reference/skills) when you type `/<skill-name>` in chat.
  * Allow `read_file` with absolute paths inside the project directory.
  * Auto-recover from `context_length_exceeded` errors via on-demand compaction and automatic retry; the context indicator drops immediately after compaction.

  ### Local Devices

  * Scan and integrate discovered buttress-servers via "Ask Agent to integrate" (multi-select supported; selection is mutually exclusive with devtools rows).

  ### Settings

  * Accent color in **Settings → Appearance**.

  ### Sidebar and window

  * Window background blur supported on the light theme.
  * Top bar collapses **Diff** / **Open in editor** / **Actions** / **Open Controller** to icons on narrow widths so it stays single-line.
  * Larger sidebar section title bars; drop the default chat-bubble icon from regular sessions.
  * Remember the Controller window position and size.

  ### Models

  * Preserve `reasoning_content` for `kimi-k2.5` / `kimi-k2.6` via opencode / opencode-go.

  ### Other

  * Self-update [BRICKS CLI](/cli) in the background for binary installs (npm/bun-managed installs are not modified).
  * React error boundary catches render crashes, reports to Bugsnag, and shows a reload-able fallback.
  * Other stability improvements.

  ### Fixes

  * Eliminate "Agent is already processing" races during multi-turn runs and queued-input auto-send.
</Update>

<Update label="May 4, 2026" description="v2.24.2" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Chat

  * **Main Chat** — project-agnostic agent for general BRICKS workflows. The empty state surfaces a provider setup guide, a Local Devices panel, and an Open BRICKS Controller shortcut. Sidebar splits into **Projects** and **Chat** sections.
  * **Pinned Sessions** — starred sessions appear in a dedicated sidebar section.
  * Render mermaid diagrams in chat with the BRICKS theme.

  ### Providers

  * API key test validation in **Settings → Providers** for Anthropic, OpenAI / `baseUrl`, Google AI Studio, Google Vertex, OpenAI Codex, and custom providers.

  ### Models

  * New opencode provider models: `kimi-k2.6` and `deepseek-v4-flash` / `deepseek-v4-pro`. The `opencode-go` default is bumped to `kimi-k2.6`. See [models](/ctor/reference/models).

  ### Sandbox

  * Detect dangerous bash commands and force a permission prompt. See [sandbox](/ctor/reference/sandbox).

  ### Sidebar and window

  * Narrower minimum sidebar width with compact polish; bottom actions moved to the **Projects** header.
  * macOS: reclaim titlebar space in fullscreen.
  * Widen the controller drag strip without blocking clicks underneath.

  ### Preview

  * Send theme changes to the preview pane.
  * Always show the **DevTools** button on local devices; non-probed devices prompt for a passcode. Local Devices renders as an inline chat panel.
  * Disable the inner preview title bar.
  * DevTools / CDP screencast is disabled by default.

  ### Settings

  * Reuse the chip-style **Model** / **Thinking** selectors from the chat input.
  * Jump from the ACP indicator to its setting.

  ### Other

  * "Open Folder in CTOR" Finder Service for macOS.
  * Add a **Changelog** link to the Help menu.
  * Limit **Open Project** scan to immediate subdirectories.
  * Cut `git index.lock` contention from the watcher fan-out during deploy / pull / update.
  * Other stability improvements.

  ### Fixes

  * Clear stale chat when removing a project.
  * Constrain the login OTP input to the server's 5-letters + 4-digits format.
  * Don't navigate input history during IME composition.
  * Stop persisting default allowed sandbox domains so future default updates reach existing users.
  * Dedupe API error notifications and clear stale messages on session switch.
  * Keep Auth0 redirects inside the controller window so login completes in-app.
</Update>

<Update label="April 29, 2026" description="v2.24.1" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  ### Models

  * New defaults: `openai/gpt-5.5` for OpenAI and `openai-codex/gpt-5.5` for Codex. See [models](/ctor/reference/models).
  * `gpt-5.3-codex-spark` is now gated to the ChatGPT Pro plan.

  ### Providers

  * New **Google Agent Platform (Vertex AI)** provider.
  * Cancel and delete buttons in the provider add/edit form.
  * Profile name is derived from the ID token on token login.

  ### Window

  * New **Pin Window** toggle in the Window menu.
  * Frameless transparent Controller window with dark background blur.

  ### Sidebar

  * Resizable width.
  * Newly added projects appear at the top.
  * New session button on the collapsed sidebar's top bar.

  ### Chat

  * Native context menu in chat and input fields.
  * Banners aligned to chat content width.
  * Collapsible prompt preview blocks.
  * Custom instructions per agent.

  ### Images

  * Image previews in the [diff pane](/ctor/reference/diff-view).
  * New imagegen [skill](/ctor/reference/skills) controls.
  * Markdown images render relative to the project path.

  ### Sandbox

  * Network allowlist now permits Activity Log domains.
  * Refresh agent environment when reusing an agent.

  ### Other

  * [Agent Client Protocol](/ctor/reference/acp) server expanded to support additional agent clients.
  * Startup requirements screen for [BRICKS CLI](/cli), Bun, and Git.
  * Refined elevated background and primary text theme colors.
  * Hide disabled or uninstalled skills from chat input.

  ### Fixes

  * Chat input no longer submits on Enter during IME composition.
  * Edited message resend uses the correct model fallback.
  * Include all generated and post-install paths when staging an update.
  * Resolve missing migration after the CTOR rename.
</Update>

<Update label="April 22, 2026" description="v2.24.0" tags={["Release", "Preview"]}>
  Initial preview release of [CTOR](/ctor), the new desktop IDE for building BRICKS applications.

  ### Highlights

  * **AI-agent conversational workflow** — build BRICKS applications by chatting with the built-in AI [agent](/ctor/guide/agent-usage). Review file edits and tool calls in the integrated [diff view](/ctor/reference/diff-view).
  * **Integrated Controller view** — preview and manage your workspace directly from the desktop app, without switching to the web.
  * **Web Preview CDP bridge** — external CDP clients (Chrome DevTools, Playwright, [`bricks devtools`](/cli/commands)) can connect to the CTOR preview via a local WebSocket server. Currently available in CTOR only.

  See the [installation guide](/ctor/guide/installation) for downloads.
